In the title and subject of the show, Saunders jokes with the history of Homie. The painting is a portrait of Patrick McGoohan from 1967 British cult show, The Prisoner, in which McGoohan collapses in his house and wakes in a replica of his apartment transposed to an idyllic "Village," which is of course a prison. Each episode begins with this scene, and the action often starts with McGoohan asleep at "home" – moments when he is observed by his captors, interrogated in subconscious and dreams. Saunders conceived this work for Homie: a gallery in a home; the former bedroom, which switched places with a studio to become an exhibition space.
